When it comes to the deliciousness of summer, my favorite is undoubtedly the Lingnan specialty - lychee.
Litchi is a summer specialty fruit. The mature lychee is round and plump, with a bright red color, the size of a pigeon egg, and has numerous small bumps all over its body, like little hedgehogs wearing red robes. There are a variety of lychee varieties, the most common of which are cinnamon flavored, glutinous rice cake, white sugar poppy, Feizixiao, and so on.
It is said that Feizi Xiao was named after Yang Guifei's love for lychee. The Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu's poem "Passing through the Clear Palace of China" specifically wrote about this matter: "Riding on the Red Dust Concubine Laughing, no one knows it's lychee." The capital of the Tang Dynasty was Chang'an, and the closest production area to lychee was also more than a thousand kilometers away. Fresh lychee was difficult to preserve, and once it left the branches, it would change color in one or two days and taste in two or three days. It can be said that "one lychee is hard to find". In order to win the smile of Yang Guifei, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang ordered his minister Gao Lishi to send people with fast horses and whips to transport lychees from thousands of miles away to Chang'an City day and night.
My favorite food is cinnamon flavor. The shell is thin and easy to peel off. Gently peel off the bright red outer skin, and a faint fragrance of osmanthus wafts in. Perhaps Guiwei is named after this fragrance, right? The peeled lychee has a milky white flesh, resembling a sparkling glass bead. Litchi in the mouth, cool and smooth. One bite down, the juice splashes everywhere, filling the lips and teeth with sweet juice, like tasting nectar. Chewing carefully, the sweetness is strong and elastic. The juice slides down your tongue to your throat, moistening your stomach and heart all the way, it's simply enjoying the deliciousness of the world! No wonder Su Dongpo wrote in "One Wonderland of Huizhou": "Eating three hundred lychees a day, I am a Lingnan native
Litchi is not only delicious, but also has high nutritional value. The flesh of lychee is rich in glucose, protein, folate, and amino acids, which can invigorate the spleen, promote diuresis, beautify and nourish the skin, enhance the body's resistance, and also stimulate intelligence and nourish the brain. The small lychee pit is still a common Chinese medicinal herb.
As the saying goes, 'One lychee can ignite three fires.' Although lychee is delicious, eating too much can also easily cause internal heat. Don't be greedy for too much!
