一年一度的运动会即将开始，今年的项目比以往多了一个跳高，班上的同学建议我去试试。于是，我便在报名表上写上了自己的名字。
The annual sports meet is about to begin, and this year's event has one more high jump than before. My classmates suggested that I try it out. So, I wrote my name on the registration form.
在之后的日子里，我每天抽空练习跳高，因为我觉得去年没拿到奖牌，今年必须拿到。到了运动会那天，我先跑一跑热热身，但突然感觉大腿一阵酸痛，原来是肌肉拉伤了，我只能回到看台上坐着。正当我忐忑不安时，旁边的同学推了推我：“快走啊，五年级跳高开始了！”我只好硬着头皮，向比赛场地走去。跳高的人真多啊，有好几个选手都比我高。他们在试跳的时候，我发现大部分都经验不足。有的跳不起来，有的在快要跑到杆子的时候突然减速，只有几个选手跳过去了。
In the following days, I took some time to practice high jump every day because I felt like I didn't win a medal last year, so I had to win it this year. On the day of the sports meet, I started by running to warm up, but suddenly felt a wave of soreness in my thighs. It turned out to be a muscle strain, so I had to sit back in the stands. Just as I was feeling uneasy, the classmate next to me pushed me and said, 'Hurry up, the high jump for fifth grade has started!' I had to grit my teeth and walk towards the competition venue. There are so many people jumping high, several of them are taller than me. When they tried jumping, I found that most of them lacked experience. Some couldn't jump up, some suddenly slowed down when they were about to reach the pole, and only a few contestants jumped over.
比赛正式开始。果然不出所料，一会儿工夫，许多选手都被淘汰了，只有我和另外四个留了下来。随着高度的提升，前面个别选手跳了过去。马上就要到我了，我深吸一口气，揉了揉腿，忍着疼痛飞快地跑了起来。快到杆子的时候，猛地一跃，整个人就像飞起来了一样，越过了杆，我开心极了！最后，只剩下三个选手，大家都摩拳擦掌要争第一。看着第一个选手被淘汰了，我正准备与另个一选手一决高下时，广播里突然响起了声音：“请吴州同学快来参加四百米跑步！”一旁的老师催促我赶紧跳，裁判也让我先跳。此时，我的心蹦到了嗓子眼，心想：我要跳不过去怎么办？我越想越着急，在跳的时候出现了失误，与第一名失之交臂。
The competition has officially begun. As expected, after a while, many contestants were eliminated, only me and the other four stayed behind. As the height increased, a few players ahead jumped over. It's almost me, I took a deep breath, rubbed my legs, and ran quickly despite the pain. When I was about to reach the pole, I suddenly jumped and felt like I had flown over the pole. I was extremely happy! Finally, there were only three contestants left, and everyone was eager to compete for first place. As I watched the first contestant being eliminated and was about to compete with another contestant, a voice suddenly sounded on the radio: "Please come and participate in the 400 meter run, Wu Zhou!" The teacher beside me urged me to jump quickly, and the referee also let me jump first. At this moment, my heart jumped to my throat and I thought to myself: What if I can't jump over? The more I thought about it, the more anxious I became. I made a mistake while jumping and missed out on the first place.
这时，同学们过来安慰我：“没关系，安全第一，比赛第二。你今天状态不大好，拿到第二就已经很不错了。”我的心里顿时舒坦了很多，没有拿到第一也不用气馁，因为每一个努力者都是值得被尊敬的。
At this moment, my classmates came over to comfort me: 'It's okay, safety comes first, competition comes second. You're not in good shape today, and it's already good to finish second.' My heart suddenly felt much relieved, and I didn't have to be discouraged if I didn't finish first, because every hardworking person deserves respect.
