That was one winter vacation, and I went to the countryside to visit my grandfather. It happened to be my grandfather's house steaming rice cakes.

The big yellow rice for steaming rice cakes was soaked the night before, and the next morning it was washed and drained repeatedly. I followed my grandfather's house and led my donkey to the grinding track with great fanfare. The road was filled with people, some occupying the road and some chatting leisurely. The scene was lively and harmonious.来源 wwW.ZUowEnbA.nET

The kidney beans that are essential for steaming rice cakes must be cooked in advance. My young sister and I can each share half of the bowl, and my grandmother even added brown sugar to our bowl. It's a big ball that tastes sweet and delicious.

Most steamed rice cakes are made at night, with water added to the iron pot and a newly made "flat bottom" on the shelf. When the steam rises, a layer of kidney beans is spread on top, and then the freshly ground yellow rice noodles are evenly sprinkled. It didn't take long to smell the mellow aroma of millet flour. This is a strong but exceptionally friendly aroma, like words that have been separated for many years rushing towards the ears.

The rice cake is about to be removed from the pot, and as soon as the lid is lifted, a dazzling golden hue hits our eyes. Combined with a moist glow, in our eyes, it is like the moon just rising on a Mid Autumn Festival night, and also like a huge round of gold. I dare say that no one has ever seen such a large pile of gold. Everyone present wants to eat a little. My sister and I are trying something fresh. Adults mainly taste whether it's sticky or not. Grandma even puts brown sugar on it, but my sister picks it up and takes it all at once. Grandma couldn't help but taunt her, 'With a pot of rice and a stove of firewood, is brown sugar eaten like that?'

After breakfast the next day, whenever you go out and meet someone, make sure to hear this conversation:

Is the rice cake sticky or not

Sticky

Will it stick to your teeth

Sticky teeth, my mouth can't even open, my upper and lower teeth are stuck together

I often eat rice cake in the first lunar month, but I don't have sugar in every meal. Occasionally, my grandmother would dig out sugar that is a little bigger than my finger's belly and remind me, 'This thing is salty, eat less, eat too much, it will make my throat sore.' Isn't sugar sweet? How could it be salty? This mystery has always remained in my memory.

Looking back now, those days of dipping in sugar, those days of eating boiled kidney beans, all burst out of my memory, making me feel incredibly happy and content!
